How You Can Help Support Bushfire Recovery Activities factsheet

The domestic and international help from individuals, groups, and organisations has been enormous and is appreciated by bushfire-affected communities.

To help services deal effectively with recovery where it is needed, the Government asks that donations be in the form of financial assistance only. Coordination services have been overwhelmed with the volume of goods and services coming in.

Further along in the recovery, charities and support services may indicate that they are in a better position to receive donations of household goods and each organisation will make this known to communities.

If you wish to donate to bushfire recovery efforts, we recommend you check:

The National Bushfire Recovery Agency publishes a list provided by the Australian Treasury, Australian Taxation Office (ATO) and the ACNC of registered charities contributing to bushfire recovey efforts.

These charities accept tax deductible donations.

Some charities with a national reach include:

If you would like to volunteer, please contact the volunteering peak bodies in your area.

If you come across injured or orphaned wildlife, follow the advice of registered wildlife carer organisations.

If it is safe to do so, wrap the injured animal loosely in 100 per cent cotton fabric and place gently in a ventilated box. Then contact your nearest veterinarian or wildlife carer organisation.

Practical ways you can ease the stress on wildlife, regardless of whether you’re in a fire-affected area, includes leaving water dishes and buckets around your garden or property in shaded areas, and keeping domestic pets away from native animals.
